Greg Gard and the University of Wisconsin basketball program have found a replacement for Dean Oliver on the Badgers coaching staff.

The Badgers are hiring Saint Leo head coach Lance Randall to complete the Wisconsin basketball coaching staff, as confirmed by the school.

“I am so thankful for Coach Gard granting me this opportunity to be a part of this storied Wisconsin program,” Randall said. “Coach Gard is not only one of the top coaches in the entire country, but also one of the highest integrity men I have ever known.

“Growing up in Wisconsin, I am very familiar with the history of this program including this current team. It is an honor to work for Coach Gard and alongside his great staff with this Badgers men’s basketball team.”

Wisconsin Basketball Hires Lance Randall as Assistant

Here’s the scoop on Randall: Originally from Montfort, Wisconsin, he kicked off his coaching career as an assistant at Beloit College, his alma mater, from 1994 to 1997. He then took on head coaching roles at Webster University from 1997 to 2000, Lindenwood University from 2015 to 2019, plus two separate stints at Saint Leo University.

Randall brings three decades of head coaching experience, during which he racked up over 400 career wins at the NCAA Division II and III levels. He also helped propel his programs to 11 conference championships and seven NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure.

Randall comes to the Wisconsin basketball team, having recently held the position of head coach at Saint Leo University, where he set the record as the program’s all-time winningest coach. He also holds the record for the most wins at both Lindenwood University and Webster University.

“We are very pleased to welcome Lance Randall and his family to our staff,” Gard said in a statement. “This search process was extensive and we evaluated a multitude of qualified candidates across many levels for the position.

“As we continue to evaluate and navigate the ever-changing college basketball landscape, I am confident that Lance will bring a wealth of experience and wide-range versatility to our program.

“Lance is well connected throughout our state, across the country, and internationally in the game of basketball. Because of these relationships and connections, it will allow us to be impactful in our recruiting efforts across a variety of areas. Lance comes highly regarded by his colleagues and peers.”

With his comprehensive experience and local roots, Randall is poised to bring his unique perspective to the Wisconsin men’s basketball program while aiming to elevate the Badgers’ recruiting efforts.

Randall joins a Wisconsin basketball coaching staff that also includes Badgers alumni Joe Krabbenhoft, Sharif Chambliss, and Kirk Penney
