Haynes King named Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week
USA TODAY Sports

One day after being named the ACC Quarterback of the Week, Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King has been named the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top performer of the week that plays in or is, from the state of Texas.

King amassed 377 yards of total offense (287 passing, 90 rushing) and threw for four touchdowns while leading Georgia Tech (4-4, 3-2 ACC) back from four different double-digit deficits in the victory in the win over 17th-ranked UNC. He completed 23-of-30 passes, good for the second-highest single-game completion percentage in Tech history (.767 – min. 30 attempts). His final pass of the night was a 5-yard touchdown to tight end Brett Seither (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic H.S.) with 4:28 to go in the ballgame that capped a 22-point fourth quarter and proved to be the game-winner (Per Georgia Tech PR)

For the season, King leads the ACC in touchdown passes (21) and points responsible for (18.2/game) and ranks second in the league in total passing yards (2,122) and total offense per game (323.0). He ranks among the top 10 nationally in touchdown passes, total offense and points responsible for. He is one of only two players in the country this season with at least 2,100 passing yards, 450 rushing yards and 20 touchdown passes (joining LSU’s Jayden Daniels) and is only the second ACC player since 2000 to post those numbers in his team’s first eight games of the season (joining Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2016) (Per Georgia Tech PR).

Yesterday, King and Center Weston Franklin were named the ACC players of the week at their respective positions.

Georgia Tech faces Virginia this Saturday on the road. Kickoff is at 2:00 p.m. on the CW Network.
