North Texas-Louisiana Tech football game postponed due to COVID-19 cases

Yet another college football game scheduled for this Saturday has been dropped due to issues related to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The North Texas Mean Green announced on Thursday that this weekend's home contest versus the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs has been postponed because of active COVID-19 cases and subsequent quarantines.  North Texas athletic director Wren Baker said in the prepared statement:

"We are very disappointed to announce the postponement of our game against Louisiana Tech this weekend. However, it is necessary in the interest of the health and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. We've appreciated the consistent dialogue with our colleagues at Louisiana Tech and we look forward to safely resuming play."

North Texas previously had last Saturday's game against the UTEP Miners and a Sept. 26 showdown with the Houston Cougars postponed. The Mean Green haven't played since a 52-35 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Oct. 17. 

"Although we are disappointed we won't get to play this Saturday, we support the decision that has been made for the welfare of everyone involved," Louisiana Tech athletic director Eric Wood added. 

"We understand the current situation at North Texas as we were in their exact same position back in early September prior to our opener against Baylor. This will provide our student-athletes an open weekend to recover from seven straight weeks of football, and we look forward to playing in Denton in early December."

Louisiana Tech and North Texas could potentially play on Dec. 5. The Bulldogs are now scheduled to be off until a home game against the Rice Owls on Nov. 14. 

Air Force-Army, Navy-Tulsa, Washington-California, FIU-UTEP, and Louisville-Virginia are also among Saturday games that have been called off because of the health crisis.
