Ex-Jets RB claims team asked him to have a surgery he didn’t want then cut him

Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton isn’t the only player publicly speaking out about the shady medical practices of the New York Jets.

In a video recently posted on his Instagram page , former Jets running back Ty Johnson revealed that not long after the Jets requested he undergoes surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle suffered during an offseason workout, the team had released him with a non-injury designation less than one month after re-signing him to a one-year deal.

"I've had some dark, dark days, man," Johnson said. "I went to New York. I told them—even before the report—I was working out and this is what happened. I saw the team doctor, he said, 'You need to get it fixed.' Flew out the next day, and I come back happy that I got it done, even though I didn't want to get it done. That following Wednesday, you’re out of there. And I was like, ‘Damn.’”

The 25-year-old running back had spent the last two-plus seasons in New York, rushing for 652 yards and four touchdowns on 145 carries. He also added 62 receptions for 559 yards and three more touchdowns, plus he returned 11 kicks for 190 yards while playing 343 combined snaps on special teams.

Due to the timing of his surgery, Johnson, who is currently a free agent, may not have much interest from other teams until closer to the regular season. He could land a deal if a team suffers a significant injury at running back during training camp or the preseason.
