Kansas City Chiefs Opening Night Opponent Revealed
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs became the first team since the New England Patriots in the 2003 and 2004 seasons to win Super Bowls in back-to-back years. They will now look to become the first team to ever three-peat during the 2024 campaign.

Who will the Chiefs be beginning their defense of the Lombardi Trophy against? It was announced that they will be hosting the Baltimore Ravens in the annual Thursday Night Football season opener in Week 1.

This will be a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game, in which the Kansas City Chiefs went on the road and won 17-10. This game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, as the defending Super Bowl champion always hosts the kickoff of the following season.

This is about as good of a matchup as the NFL could make for Opening Night. Two of the most electrifying players in the league, quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, will be facing off.

They are two of the most decorated players currently in the NFL. Mahomes and Jackson have both won two MVP awards, as Jackson and the Ravens are still trying to chase down the Kansas City Chiefs when it comes to winning Super Bowls.

It has been a while since Baltimore traveled to play in Kansas City. 2019 was the last time, but you have to go all the way back to 2012 to find the last time that the Ravens won in Arrowhead. Will they be able to snap that streak on September 5th?

Oddsmakers are certainly giving them a chance. With the announcement of the season opener, betting lines for the game have also been released. The Kansas City Chiefs are installed as 2.5-point favorites with the over/under set at 47.5 points.

This will be the fourth time the Kansas City Chiefs are in the kickoff game of the season, going 2-1 to this point. The Ravens have played in one previously, but the game was on the road against the Denver Broncos because the Baltimore Orioles already had a home game going on.
