NFL Exec Reveals Bold Trade Buffalo Bills Must Make Next

The Buffalo Bills traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in a stunning move on Wednesday, and they may not be done.

A former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that the Bills need to fill the void left by Diggs.

“The Bills need to do more than just address the wide receiver position in the NFL Draft,” the exec said. “Losing a talent like Stefon Diggs is the kind of move that can set you back in a big way. If I’m Buffalo, I’m going all-out to acquire Tee Higgins. If you can’t get him, Odell Beckham Jr. would be worth a chance.”

Right now, Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel are Buffalo’s top two receivers, so the club certainly needs to add some weapons.

Could the Bills pursue Higgins?

Higgins requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this offseason after the team slapped a franchise tag on him ahead of free agency.

The Bengals have until the middle of July to reach a long-term agreement with Higgins, and if they can’t get anything done by then, they’ll have to hope that the wide out chooses to sign his franchise tender.

That would allow Cincinnati to revisit things with Higgins next offseason, but, chances are, the Bengals would simply let Higgins walk in that scenario. They are already paying quarterback Joe Burrow $55 million annually and also have to extend receiver Ja’Marr Chase, so paying Higgins big money as well seems unlikely.

In that case, the door could be open for a trade, although the Bills would really have to pony up in order to pry Higgins away from Cincy.

The Bengals are trying to contend for a Super Bowl, so there is a strong probability that they keep Higgins through 2024.

Beckham would represent an intriguing option, as well, although he logged just 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens this past year. If Buffalo does go that route, it would also have to add another piece, as it can’t just rely on Beckham at this stage of his career.
